racism. These practices rub many the wrong way. As leader of BCAH I have refrained from taking a public stance on them because it seemed to me that what Folk do among themselves didn’t affect me. I took a “Live and let live” attitude and kept my opinions to myself in the name of Frith. However, as a
result of the recent uproar on these issues, I feel it has become necessary to publicly address them.
Therefore, here is my stance, and the official position of BCAH.
I will not condemn anyone for toasting Loki, out of respect for Odin’s wish, as He expressed in Lokasenna; but I will not allow him to be honored at my events, nor will I attend any events where he is honored, on the grounds that he is a frith-breaker and a liar. The hot debate on the acceptability of Loki-worship in the community is proof that Loki is still doing his work to
sow discord. No reasonable person would invite Loki into their life and be surprised at the volatility that comes with such a being. As for those who would argue about the helpful
thing that Loki did, think about it this way: How do we look on people who cause problems for the purpose of fixing them? Also, does the enemy not pretend to be a friend first to get close, and then reveal himself as the fiend that he is?
As for the rest of the Jotnar, why would anyone want to honor that which would cause us harm? Honoring these beings alongside the Aesir and the Vanir is to be ignorant to what Heathenry really is.
Also, Heathenry is a Germanic religion, but that has nothing to do with politics or racism.
Racism will not be tolerated. Have pride in yourself and your ancestry without stepping on other peoples. It’s easier than you think. As for non-Germanic Heathens, let their actions,
beliefs, and the reflection of themselves on the community, as well as the community on themselves, be the test that determines if they are fit to be called Heathen, just like the rest of us. If they live as Heathens, then let them be treated as heathens.
Lines are being drawn on each side of this debate. I hope that I have made mine clear. In the future, those who break or tip-toe around these standards will be asked to leave and not be invited back. Those who are unwilling to meet these standards, well, there is always Cauldron Farms.
