summer for me, doing work around the house, preparing the 2014 “Little Viking Heathen Holiday” calendar for its first corrected release (2013 having a few errors that were discovered after its release). It will be available through Lulu shortly. I have also been putting in many hours writing my book on my vision of Heathenry, which is turning into a more time-consuming process than I had anticipated (with less being produced hour for hour than I would like, after revision and re-revision). I’ve also been working on some fiction, as well as trying to find time (without much success) to play my guitar. I will try to be more attentive to this blog in the future, and as things progress.
Our BCAH café meet-ups have been a bit over-social. While the meetings are meant to be fun, they equally need to serve a purpose to educate and develop the community. Starting with the next meeting, we’re going to add a bit more structure. We’re going to start meetings on time and have a timed break half-way through, as well as ending on time. Socializing can happen before hand, during the 20 minute break, or afterwards. The rest of the time will be broken up as needed for welcoming and introductions, presentations, and open discussions of Heathen related topics. We’ve had a lot of luck introducing Heathens to each other over the years, but there has been a certain amount of difficulty getting people to consistently return. We can do better. I’d like to get some of those folk to come back, as well as bring in some new folk, and
reduce some of the turnover. We can accomplish much more together than we can fragmented. My primary interest is in growing the culture and the community of Heathenry, and this can only be done with dialogue.
I will be teaching Asatru as I practice it. That is not to say that my way is the “right way”, or has a one-up on anyone else’s way, but it is the way that I know best. It is this type of Heathenry that I am writing about, this kind of Heathenry I practice, and this type that I pass on to others. Having said that, within reason, anyone may present whatever materials
they want at meetings. I also have limits. For example, we can discuss Hela, and her place as a goddess of the dead, but we will not spend any significant time comparing and contrasting her to Kali. Mohammad is not some kind of Avatar for Odin, and Zeus and Thor are not
the same because they both like lightening. These are not Heathen deities, and we are a Heathen group, not New Age or Pan-Pagan. We will be sticking to Heathen theology, even the controversial parts (for discussion only!!) and Heathen culture. If this is not what you
want, there are other groups out there and I would be all too happy to help interested folk make contact with those people.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday and pounding out some more of the details moving forward.
